Frost

1/4/2016

I'm not a betting man but I would wager you don't run out in the yard and garden in cold weather without a jacket.  Why not protect your plants too? Plants, like you and I, don't like the extreme elements of hot and cold.
In fact, plants have a harder time adjusting to those kind of conditions.  As the weather gets colder and colder and frost is the main subject at dinner time, you may want to protect your plants with some very simple techniques.

For instance, potted plants can be moved indoors during the evening.  Landscape plants can tolerate a bed sheet thrown over them at night - just make sure no-one is using the bed sheet first.

And again, remove the bed sheet during daylight hours. An anti desiccant spray can be found at most nurseries.  Anti-desiccants when applied to a plant with a hose end or pump sprayer provides a temporary protective coating that can aid a plant from frost bit.
