Did you know that if you plant an avocado tree from seed, it won't produce fruit?  You need to do a process called grafting in order to ensure big beautiful avocados.
Here's How...

Grafting Episode Tutorial

This video shows you how to graft an avocado tree.  It's a lengthy process but if you follow the simple steps, you'll have so much guacamole that you won't know even what to do with!

How to Graft An Avocado Tree: Step By Step

First grow an avocado pit until it's about 2ft tall

Picture

Cut the stock about 8 inches above soil level using a sharp grafting knife.  What is left over is called the "stock"

Find a scion:  A scion is an branch off of an already producing avocado tree
It only needs to be about 12 inches long. The scion needs to be the exact same width as your stock, or slightly smaller.  A bigger scion will not work

Make an incision right in the center of the stock
Cut down only about an inch or so
watch the video to find out what this wooden thing is

Make two 30 degree angle cuts at the end of the scion

Slip the scion into the slit on the stock

Use grafting tape to tightly tape up the new graft

Fully cover the taped graft with grafting wax
This helps keep moisture and bacteria out

Cut the scion so that there's 4-6 inches left above the new graft

Apply wax to that cut

You're done!
After a few months, this is what it should look like.
Always graft a few at a time because your success rate will only be 60-80%
but don't worry, this is the nature of grafting :-)
