Zonal Geraniums

11/30/2015

No need to go to South Africa for Zonal Geraniums. Zonal Geraniums for you hard core gardeners Pelargonium hortorum hybrids are shrub like plants that are native to south Africa.
Since they’ll grow for anybody no need to get a ticket to search the Serrangenti.

Though flowers are non-fragrant Zonal Geraniums flower July through September. They thrive in full sunlight and can be grown in ground or as a houseplant.

Unlike many houseplants that like high humidity, Zonal Geraniums like low humidity so misting is a no no.

Saturate the soil when watering but allow it to moderately dry before turning the hose on again.  Like most plants it’s prone to certain pests like aphids and whitefly.

Always inspect plant leaves and have insecticidal soap nearby to head off any problems.

Do the usual pinching back to encourage new growth and remove dead flowers.
