Salting

1/4/2016

It's bad enough the doctor says stay away from salt, now your gardener is telling you the same thing. Salt in the yard and garden isn't one of the first things that come to mind.
However, soon there will be driveways, sidewalks, porches and streets covered with salt to keep one from slipping and sliding all over the place.

Take some precautions when salting and you'll have a better growing experience when the weather warms up.

Along driveways and walks place snake like sandbags the length of concrete next to planters and turf.

Should you get a little wild with sowing the salt don't have a heart attack, simply get your garden hose and flood the area.

In fact, the only way to move salt out of the soil, whether it's from salting or naturally from your water supply is by heavily irrigating, flooding and moving the salt out of the root zone area.

It is a tough one, but it can be done.
